Interested In Giving A Great Sermon?

Before you decide to jump right in and give a sermon, you really should read what I have to tell you. I have watched many a sermon, and most ministers make it look so, so easy. The reason they can make it look so easy, is practice. They have spent many an hour getting prepared. It is their job, so to speak, and they work very hard at their job, perfecting it, making everything sound so smooth, and keeping your attention. I will let you in on a few things you should now, so you can give sermons like that forever.

You need to know, that your constituants in your congregation really do want to like your sermon. They do not want to be bored, and have every expectation that your sermon will be great. Reputation is built one sermon at a time, and your first sermon sets the tone for future sermons. Some people are there at your sermon cause they feel they have to be, and are really in a "I want to be somewhere else" attitude. So lets not make them suffer anymore than we have to. We want them to FEEL like coming to your sermons. So this will give you a good perspective to keep them wanting more.

So, knowing this, lets get prepared. YOUR sermon should not be made up as you go, you need to have preparation on your side. It is very hard to make things up as you go, if you don't know where you are going. You want to be on topic and not just wandering around like a lost soul in the desert. Sermons can be long, and it seems longer to the ones listening to your sermon, so let's not lose your congregation. Avoid that danger and get yourself prepared. Can't say that enough.

I know you will be nervous, so with preparation, you have something to draw off of. But now, you want to be heard. Nothing turns people off more than not being able to hear you. Speak with a strong firming voice. Practice this, so you can train your vocal chords to repond the way you want them too. The more you talk though, the drier your mouth gets. So have plenty of water handy. This is a must. You will not be able to speak clearly for so long, with plenty of water on hand. Remember what I said......Be Prepared.

Like I said, it looks easy giving sermons, but that is from the hard work involved. And a good sermon all comes from.....are you ready for this?

Being Prepared. This is what will make your sermon a good sermon.
